Sweet Aileen Receives Life-Changing Surgery!

Updated: Feb 24

This beautiful child came to our attention through a friend. Aileen was a young Venezuelan girl. Like every other child, she just wanted to live a normal life... she enjoyed stuffed animals and dolls, like most girls her age. She was the daughter of a poor Venezuelan family that loved and adored her. But, for Aileen, life was not "normal".

The child suffered from a very large bulging tumor in her left eye cavity that was severely sensitive, punishingly painful, and very unsightly. When we asked what could be done, we were told that a surgeon could remove the tumor and there was a 95% chance that they would also remove 100% of the cancerous cells;  however the eye could not be saved (the damage had already been done).

Our next question was "Why haven't they already completed the surgery?" The reply was "the parents cannot afford to pay for it". We asked our friend to further investigate. After discussions with the surgeon, the surgeon agreed to perform the procedure "gratis"  -- however there was still the cost of the facilities, anesthesia, etc.

Hope for Latin Children was able to provide the funds for the procedure, which was a major success! Look at the smile on Aileen's face 1 year after surgery!
